My God!

“We believe in light because of obscurity,
We believe in joy because of sadness,
And we believe in God, because of the devil!”

– Enigma

The truth of the above statements is quite unimportant. Yet, it sparks silent questions in our minds. And the answer we get, is silence again. Science may have taught us “how” the earth revolves around the sun, or “how” sun rises and sets everyday. But our search must not end there. The real question is “Why?”. Why should the earth revolve around the sun? More feasibly, what makes the earth revolve around the sun?

Gravity? Their mass difference? The distance? Ultimately, Big Bang?

Well, why should the Big Bang have occurred? “Who made the matter, the elements, defining perfect roles for each of them? The complex symmetry in nature is not yet understood completely. As much as Charles Darwin might have explained the theory of evolution, the question “why” still remains unanswered. Why was the evolution necessary at all? We could have ‘happily’ remained amoebae!

Coming back to the idea of creation of the universe, we will, sooner or later, have to accept the role of a ‘supernatural power’ or a driving force that sustains all the happenings of the universe. Call it anything – For me, it’s God.

My understanding of God is far from being religious. For me, God is gravity. God is light. God is the unwritten law that makes fire burn, water flow and perhaps the spark that triggered the universe. God is the human intellect, that conjures so many wonderful things each and every day. I believe God is in every act of man that benefits another and hurts no one. And God is the conscience that guides, the intellect that inspires, and the heart that helps.

In today’s scenario, God is largely related to religion, festivities, and to a never-ending myth of existence. God is often spoken of, when debating upon topics like life, death and sometimes even life-after-death. Yet, why do we think of God during times of distress, disaster and impending danger? God is hope; the light at the end of the tunnel; the maker of the universal law of life and more than anything, God is the eternal faith that burns in each and every one of us. If it is a form of faith that builds harmony among people, why not? But if that faith is to kill and plunder; it is misguided.

Someday, I wish we will have enough knowledge and ‘science’ to understand my God. 🙂

Fwd: God on IM!

Another email forward, worth the read. 🙂

God: Hello… Did you call me?

Me: Called you? No.. who is this?

God: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.

Me: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something..

God: What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.

Me: Don’t know. But I cant find free time. Life has become hectic. It’s rush hour all the time.

God: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results.

Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.

Me: I understand. But I still cant figure it out.. By the way, I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.

God: Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this net era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?

God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

Me: why are we then constantly unhappy?

God: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That’s why you are not happy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?

God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty..

God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?

God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer. With that experience their life becomes better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?

God: Yes. In every terms, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can’t we be free from problems?

God: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons (to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don’t know where we are heading…

God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?

God: Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass. Let others work with the clock.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?

God: when they suffer they ask, “why me?” When they prosper, they never ask “Why me”. Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want

to be on the side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who am I, why am I here.. I can’t get the answer.

God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

Me: How can I get the best out of life?

God: Face your past without regret.. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

Me: Thank you for this wonderful chat. I am so happy to start the New Day with a new sense of inspiration.

God: Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don’t believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve.

Happy New Year!

Turning a blind eye

“A person can explain anything to anyone if he can explain colors to a blind man.”

Its a hard, dark world for someone with no eyes. They see no light, no colors, and the beauty of nature is forever elusive to them. For them, everyday is a challenge, a struggle and a fight to stay equal with the rest of the world. The battle only gets harder as they are bereft of one of the most vital senses a person would need. Each passing day is dotted with a hundred bumps into people and things – sometimes embarassing, and many times, painful. But, I believe God has His way with life and everyone are created equal. When He takes away something from someone, He’s sure to have given them something greater to mask that loss. The real challenge for a blind person is to discover that uniquity in him/her and exercise all their efforts to excel in it. The brain-seed for this post was an incident that ocurred in the bus (on my way to college) that left me contemplating for a long time:

This happened two days ago. I was pretty late when I left home for college that morning but thankfully I managed to get on to a bus without having to wait for long at the bus stop. I managed to find a seat close to the door and settled down. A few minutes later at a subsequent stop, a blind person was helped into the bus. The person folded his ID cane and groped for something to hold on to. I got up, held his hand and guided him to my seat. While this was happening, another person who was standing in the bus thought I was going to get off the bus and had taken my seat. I told him that I had gotten up to help the blind person and asked him to vacate the seat for him. The person said: “Oh, I’m sorry I did not see”, and he gave up the seat. I said it was okay and helped the blind man sit down.

What struck me then was that a person with normal vision does not appreciate its true value. Also, that God, when He created people blind, expected the other ‘normal’ ones to help. Of what use are your eyes, if you do not use them to help a person in true need of help?

I’m pretty sure that a blind man will not be able to read this article of mine, and on the contrary, I hope the others who do will understand that its their moral responsibility to help and I hope you would consider donating your eyes – like Pavan urges everyone to. Its a good feeling to know that someone is still looking at the world through your eyes, even after you are dead.

(Thanks to Suda for letting me know of this clip’s existance on Youtube.)

Love, Life and a Tag!

Tagged again! 🙂 This time by Pavan, and as per the rules, I cannot refuse. 🙂 The rules are:

RULE #1 : People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs and replace any question that they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.
RULE #2 : Tag 6 people to do this quiz and they cannot refuse. These people must state who they were tagged by and cannot tag the person whom they were tagged by. Continue this game by sending it to other people.

Also, I’m sorry if my answers sound much like Pavan’s. Its almost exactly how I feel too. 🙂 Here goes:

1. If your lover betrayed you, what will your reaction be?
“First of all I would be VERY depressed. Secondly, I would let her go on with her life. It’s her choice to make.”
I have nothing to change here! I’d do the same.

2. If you can have a dream to come true, what would it be?
I’d like to live one day (only one) with no limit on the money I spend. 🙂

3. What is the one thing most hated by you? (Original question: Whose butt would you like to kick?)
“Back-stabbing. Whatever it is, let me know on the face.”
Same here as well. Also, I hate gossiping!

4. What would you do with a billion dollars?
Donate some to charity and start a school with the rest. 🙂

5. Will you fall in love with your best friend?

“Of course. I feel love starts with friendship.”
Yep. True!

6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone?
Being loved is a blessing that is placed on you. Loving is a blessing that you place on someone. 🙂

7. How long do you intend to wait for someone you really love?
FOREVER! No strings attached! 🙂

8. If the person you secretly like is already attached, what would you do?
I’d firstly be heartbroken. And once I come to terms with it, I’d still love her, and make sure she’s always safe and happy.

9. If you like to act with someone, who will it be? Your gf/bf or an actress/actor?
Someone who is a friend, and can understand you. Because, on stage, you’ll perform with better confidence with a friend.

10. What do you expect of your loved one? (Original question: What takes you down the fastest?)
“To be herself. Nothing more, nothing less.”
Yep! Nothing else. 🙂

11. How would you see yourself in ten years time?
I really don’t know. I don’t think that far. Ask me how I see myself tomorrow I’d say: I’ll be playing cricket for half the day (Sunday) and then be sleeping the rest. 😛

12. What’s your fear?
I fear fear. 🙂

13. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
I haven’t met him. He is a good friend of my good friend. As of now, I know him as a good person at heart, witty and straight-forward.

14. Would you rather be single and rich or married but poor?
Hmm.. Wealth has nothing to do with your marital status. I’d say, whether I’m single or married, rich or poor, I only hope I’m contented and happy.

15. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Look at the time. (I always wake up late!)

16. Would you give all in a relationship?

Yep! Everything!

17. If you fall in love with two people simultaneously, who would you pick?
God forbid such a situation for me. But I guess I’d choose the one who loves me more than I love her.

18. Would you forgive and forget no matter how horrible a thing that special someone has done?
Yes. Completely.

19. What are your three most important expectations in love ( Original Question: Will you marry me?)
You do not expect anything in love.

20. List people to tag:
I’d love Pele, Mary and Ravencasper to do this. (I’m breaking the rule here, but these are the only people I can think of right now)
